Officers made two arrests after a high-speed pursuit along the A61 in Chesterfield – after sighting a car that was seen at 16 burglaries in just one week.

Shortly after 2am on Wednesday, December 14, the Derbyshire Road Crime Unit spotted a car that officers described as “skulking” around Calow, close to the site of a burglary.

The DRCU said that a vehicle matching this description was sighted at around 16 burglaries across north east Derbyshire over the last week.

In a tweet, a DRCU spokesperson said: “Vehicle goes the wrong way up the A61, putting innocent members of the public at risk of head-on collisions. Eventually comes off and occupants abandon in Whittington.

“A short time later two males from the South Yorkshire Police area, not wearing any footwear, emerge from undergrowth whilst profusely sweating.”

The pair were arrested by DRCU officers, and the vehicle was suspected as stolen from South Yorkshire.
