SIR — In an interview with BBC Radio Derby, broadcast on June 25, the Town Clerk of Old Bolsover Town council, David Kee, said council had identified a piece of derelict allotment land which could potentially be sold to fund a swimming pool for Bolsover.

This allotment land is at Oxcroft Lane and Bolsover Allotment Association would like to point out that the land in question is not derelict.

There are plot holders on this land one of whom has been a tenant for over 30 years and his father for
more than 30 years prior to that. The remainder of the site could be made available for allotment plots immediately.

The baths project in Bolsover is off and yet the plot holders on the site are still under notice to quit.

The Town Clerk stated in his interview: "We have ringfenced the land to keep for sale and development to enable the population of Bolsover to benefit from any monies from the sale of that land."

The best benefit to be gained by the people of Bolsover would be to take up an allotment. Good food, fresh air, exercise, see lots of wildlife, make new friends, and save money.

To this end, on Saturday, July 26 from 10am to 1pm, Bolsover Allotment Association will be holding an open day to showcase the Oxcroft Lane site.

We would especially welcome anyone from Bolsover who wants to take up an allotment plot or who would be interested in having an allotment but doesn't know where to start.

Neil Inns,
Bolsover Allotment Association
