SIR — How I agree with Shell Shocked of Walton (Mailbox, August 7), but prepare yourself because if it follows the normal pattern from mid October into the New Year, it will be every evening not just Saturdays.
Silly me believed a law or by-law had been passed stating that fireworks be used only on Bonfire Night and New Year's Eve and only then between certain times. But as with driving and mobile phones and dogs on leads and leaving their mess, these laws
or rules are unenforceable.

The only way to stop the firework lovers is to ban shops from selling them — only permitting them pn Bonfire Day to responsible organised events.

I also would sign up immediately to the ban fireworks brigade.

SHELL SHOCK NO2 OF WALTON,

Name and address supplied.

SIR — I can't agree more with the letter about the noise of fireworks in Walton.

It is unbelievable that people can be so inconsiderate to let these type of fireworks off for such long periods of time and also so late at night. I am not Victor Meldrew but these fireworks are so loud and they bang every couple of seconds for 40 minutes at a time. They don't have nice displays or anything — just bang, bang, bang!

SHELL SHOCK NO3 OF WALTON,

Name and address supplied.
