Man arrested on suspicion of cannabis cultivation following Chesterfield house fire

A man has been arrested on suspicion of cannabis cultivation after a house fire in Chesterfield earlier this week.

Firefighters from Staveley, Chesterfield and Bolsover, supported by an aerial ladder platform, were called to a fire at a two storey semi-detached property on Hillman Drive, Inkersall, at 3.56am on Wednesday, April 17. Officers from Derbyshire police were also called to attend.

Upon arrival, crews discovered a fire in the roof space of the property. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used one hose reel jet and one main line jet to extinguish the fire.

A man was taken to hospital for minor burns and smoke inhalation. His injuries were not thought to be serious and he has since been discharged.

A joint police and fire investigation into the cause of the fire has determined it to be accidental with the most probable cause being the misappropriation of electrics.

Following the incident, a 43-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of cannabis cultivation and the abstraction of electricity. He has been bailed pending further enquiries.
